2009 Photo Contest

It's that time again!

It has been exactly one year since the end of our last contest, and believe it or not it's time to start preparing for the 2009 contest.  The best advice I can give any team participating in the Coastal Bend Wildlife Photo Contest is to START NOW!

The contest will begin Feb. 1, 2009 and run through June 15, 2009.  Our rules committee and board of directors are still working on a few details.  As soon as those revisions have been made, we will post them on the website.  We don't anticipate any MAJOR changes, mainly logistics, submisssion simplicity, and a couple of classification clarifications.  We will have the photographer and landowner registration forms available online Aug. 1st.

This is the time to start partnering with a landowner or photographer so you have plenty of time to learn the land, manage and maintain the land, and scout for photo blind locations. If you will be looking for a landowner or photographer this year, we need you to fill out a registration form (available Aug. 1) and we can begin the process of helping you find the right partner.

We are looking forward to another great contest year....maybe we should start the rain dances now though!

Landing at Local Airport!

The Coastal Bend Wildlife Photo Contest has partnered with the Corpus Christi International Airport, The Corpus Christi Convention and Visitors Bureau, The Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Program and Ken Bridges Audio/Video to put together a permenant Wildlife Photo Exhibit at the Corpus Christi International Airport.

This exhibit is the largest permantent display featured at the airport.   This partnership will help further promote nature tourism in our region, by showcasing the amazing creatures on our South Texas Ranches.  More than one million people go through our airport each year including locals and visitors which provides a wonderful educational opportunity.  Award winning photographs from the past four photo contests will be rotated out on a quarterly basis allowing all photographs the opportunity to be viewed on the exhibit over the years.  A special thank you to all of our sponsors for making this possible.

To volunteer to help market and maintain this project please give us a call at 361-881-9316.

Kritter Kamp

We are off to a WILD summer at Kritter Kamp.

We have had an overwhelming response to our three Kritter Kamps held in Flour Bluff, TAMU CC and TAMU Kingsville.  All three camps filled up quickly and we are getting request for even more!  Thanks to the generosity of The Morris L. Lichtenstein, Jr., Medical Research Foundation, Blanche Moore Foundation, and King Ranch Family Trust 60 kids were able to learn about local wildlife and habitat through science and art.

The kiddos went on nature walks, made plaster castings on the beach, toured a native garden and were visited by special guests: Dolfin Talk by Linda Price-May, KEDT TV, and the Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Program.  Each activity translated into a project combining Science and Art to help protect and preserve our local wildlife and habitat.  Kritter Kampers did various art projects and made lifelong memories.

We look forward to being able to offer even more Kritter Kamps in the future.  Thanks to our sponsors, campers got their very own Wildlife in Focus book, t-shirt, kritter keepers, and even Kritter field guides donated by the Texas Wildlife Association.
